Getting Results (GR)

Main content start

Getting Results, a framework for school improvement, is illustrated in a series of three videos. Schools that have implemented the GR model improved student achievement at a faster rate than demographically comparable schools in the district (see graphs and charts). All schools in our study were Title I with predominantly Latino English language learners populations, located in a highly urban and diverse area in Los Angeles. (See the "Schools and Community" video)

The GR model consists of setting shared GOALS, using INDICATORS to gauge success, providing ASSISTANCE, and effective LEADERSHIP that supports and pressures for change. These "change elements" require the creation of SETTINGS within schools that permit educators to work together, over time, to focus on and improve student outcomes. The videos illustrate key settings and their relationship to each other, classroom instruction, and improved achievement. Each was shot at a different elementary school in Southern California.
